algo = something, anything ¿Tienes algo en tu mochila? Do you have anything in your backpack? nada = nothing, not anything No, no tengo nada en mi mochila. No, I don’t have anything in my backpack.
alguien = someone, somebody, anyone ¿Conoces a alguien en esa escuela? Do you know anybody at that school? nadie = no one, nobody, not anyone -No, no conozco a nadie allí. No, I don’t know anyone there.
alguno/a/os/as, algún = some, any Busco algunos libros sobre México. I’m looking for some books about Mexico. ninguno/a, ningún = no, none, not any La biblioteca no tiene ningún libro sobre México. The library doesn’t have any books about Mexico. Ninguno/a, ningún have no plural forms.
Alguno and ninguno become algún and ningún before masculine singular nouns. ¿Tienes algún libro sobre México? Do you have any book about Mexico? -No, no hay ningún libro sobre México aquí. -No, there’s no book about Mexico here.
o…o = either…or Puedes llevar o una falda o un vestido. You can wear either a skirt or a dress. ni…ni = neither…nor No quiero llevar ni una falda ni un vestido. I want to wear neither a skirt nor a dress.
siempre = always Siempre llegas a tiempo. You always arrive on time. nunca, jamás = never Nunca (Jamás) llegas tarde. You never arrive late.
If nunca or jamás appear after the verb, you must put no before the verb. Ellos nunca (jamás) se lavan las manos. Ellos no se lavan las manos nunca (jamás). They never wash their hands.
también = also, too, as well Me acuesto tarde y mis hermanos se acuestan tarde también. I go to bed late and my brothers go to bed late, too. tampoco = neither, not either Sara no se maquilla y su madre no se maquilla tampoco. Sara doesn’t put on makeup and her mother doesn’t put on makeup, either.
