PARTES DE LA CASA Describir el lugar donde vivimos, con todos sus ambientes, muebles y equipamiento, como así también expresar nuestros sentimientos hacia nuestro hogar, dulce hogar.

Presentation: I live in a new flat in London. It's small but comfortable. It has two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom, of course. In my bedroom, there is a big window, a desk, an armchair and my bed, naturally! In the living room, there is a carpet and I have a small table, a television, a lamp and a sofa. In the kitchen, there is the sink, the fridge, the oven and a big cupboard. I don't have a microwave oven. I like my flat very much!

There is / There are Estas expresiones se utilizan para expresar la cantidad de objetos o personas que se encuentran en un determinado lugar. Ambas formas significan "Hay". La diferencia es que la primera se utiliza para el singular y la segunda para el plural. There is a chair in the bedroom. Hay una silla en el dormitorio. There are two chairs in the bedroom. Hay dos sillas en el dormitorio. En el primer caso, se hace referencia a una silla, por lo que debe usarse la forma singular. En el segundo caso, se hace referencia a más de una silla, por lo tanto se usa la forma plural.

There is / There are Cuando se desea realizar una pregunta para saber si hay una determinada cantidad de objetos o personas, se usa la forma interrogativa. Esta forma interrogativa se forma invirtiendo las palabras: Is there...? Are there...? Es interesante notar que en español solamente se agregan los signos de interrogación, cambiando por lo tanto la entonación, pero los demás elementos de la frase se mantienen intactos. Is there a chair in the bedroom? ¿Hay una silla en el dormitorio? Are there two chairs in the bedroom? ¿Hay dos sillas en el dormitorio? Cuando se desea realizar una negación acerca de la cantidad de objetos o personas, se usa la forma negativa. Esta forma negativa se forma agregando la palabra not: There is not... There are not... Como ya hemos visto, en lenguaje informal, se pueden contraer las formas verbales: There isn't... There aren't... There isn't a chair in the bedroom. No hay una silla en el dormitorio. There aren't two chairs in the bedroom. No hay dos sillas en el dormitorio.
