POSSESSION

There are 3 ways to show possession: Use the verb “TENER” Use the word “de” Use a POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVE

TENER Juan has a green shirt. Juan tiene una camisa verde. Simply conjugate the verb “tener” in a sentence to show possession. Juan has a green shirt. Juan tiene una camisa verde. We have a nice Spanish teacher. Nosotros tenemos un profesor simpático.

Use the word “de” In English we use an apostrophe to denote ownership, in Spanish we cannot. To express ‘s in Spanish we must use the word de. DE= of or from In Spanish we use the word “de” to refer to the owner Ex. Noun + de + owner Ex. El padre de Juan ………………John’s dad Ex. Las novias de Paco……Paco’s girlfriends

Use a POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVE An adjective is a word that describes a noun. A possessive adjective is an adjective that describes a relationship between people and things. Possessive adjectives must match in NUMBER and GENDER with the thing they describe.
