GUSTAR The 6 step plan to liking things!

GUSTAR GUSTAR means “to be pleasing to” and is used to discuss likes and dislikes. A mí me gusta el colegio.

STEP 1 Write A which means “to” in English. A

STEP 2 Write the prepositional phrase (or clarification phrase) to express who is doing the liking: OR you can use a name instead! A MÍ, ME / IMÍ YOU (INFORMAL)TI HIM / HEÉL HER / SHEELLA YOU (FORMAL)USTED US / WENOSOTROS / AS YOU ALL (INFORMAL)VOSOTROS / AS THEM / THEYELLOS / ELLAS YOU ALL (FORMAL)USTEDES

STEP 3 Write “NO” if the sentence means “don’t like” or “doesn’t like” If not, skip this step! A MÍ, NO

STEP 4 Write the correct indirect object pronoun, so GUSTAR isn’t lonely! There are 6 possible pronouns: A MÍ, NO ME a míMEa nosotrosNOS a tiTEa vosotrosOS a él / a ellaLEa ellos / a ellasLES a ustedLEa ustedesLES

STEP 5 Write the correct form of GUSTAR. There are only 2 possible forms of GUSTAR! Use GUSTA if you like one thing or with verbs. A Señora Kriess, le gusta el chocolate. Use GUSTAN if you like more than one thing. A él, no le gustan los alumnos malos. A MÍ, NO ME GUSTA

STEP 6 Say the thing that is liked or disliked. Be sure to include the article (el/la/los/las)! ¡A MÍ, NO ME GUSTA LA GRAMÁTICA ESPAÑOLA!
