Los irregulares: Rule #1 Verbs that end -CAR, -GAR, are affected in the YO FORM ONLY. -car changes to –qué -gar changes to –gué LOS VERBOS QUE UDS. CONOCEN: buscar, explicar, pescar, practicar, sacar, secar, secarse, tocar, apagar, colgar, conjugar, entregar, jugar, llegar, y pagar. Try it for each verbs above!

Los irregulares: Rule #2 Verbs that end -EER, -UIR, are affected in the ÉL and ELLOS FORMS. -eer changes to: él –yó & ellos -yeron -uir changes to: él –yó & ellos -yeron LOS VERBOS QUE UDS. CONOCEN: creer, leer, releer, concluir, incluir Try it for each verbs above!

Los irregulares: Rule #3 Stem changing –IR verbs (e to ie, e to i, and o to u) in the present tense are affected in the ÉL and ELLOS FORMS. The verbs take a new vowel in the ÉL and ELLOS FORMS. LOS VERBOS QUE UDS. CONOCEN: sentir (e to i), dormir (o – u), divertir (e to i), preferir (e to i), corregir (e to i), repetir (e to i), vestir (e to i), dormir (vowel changes in parenthesis are for the preterit tense) Try it for each verbs above!

Los irregulares: Rule #4 Some verbs are just irregular. Sorry, but it’s true. But, there are two ways to learn them. Does that help? 1.Know that IR & SER have the same preterit forms. 2.For the others, listed below, you need to memorize the new STEM and the attach the correct endings according to the preterit chart. LOS VERBOS QUE UDS. CONOCEN: ser, ir, dar (conjugated with the er/ir endings), estar (new stem: estuv…), tener (new stem: tuv…), poder (new stem… pud…), poner (new stem: pus…), saber (new stem: sup…), hacer (new stem: hic…), querer (new stem: quis…), venir (new stem: vin…), decir (new stem: dij…) Try it for each verbs above!
