Teaching approved projects: Erasmus and Long Life Learning LEGIS ( ) Legal Aspects of the Information Society The aim of the intensive programme is to bring together students and instructors for an intensive training and education programme on legal aspects of information society. This is an area where there is need for training and education. The need is common at European level. On the other hand training and education offers in this area are limited. Specific goals of the intensive programme include · design and test a short curriculum on legal aspects of information society, · bring together expert instructors from Europe to exchange expertise in legal aspects of information society, · create and share teaching and learning material in legal aspects of information society, · train a number of master and doctorate level students from Europe in legal aspects of information society, · help establish links between instructors and students from Europe in legal aspects of information society, · help harmonise training and education in legal aspects of information society in Europe, · create best practice in training and education in Europe in legal aspects of information society. The intensive programme will contribute to build up the necessary human capital who will be the actors to solve issues related to the practice of legal aspects of information society in Europe.

Teaching approved projects: Erasmus and Long Life Learning LAW&ICT SHARED VIRTUAL CAMPUS (October 2007-September 2009) With the new economic and trading environments created after the incorporation of new countries to the common market within the European Union, the harmonisation of legal frameworks for electronic commerce and electronic government is essential. This project will target the following actions and results: 1. Creation of an European Shared Virtual Campus on Law and ICT (Law and Information and Communication Technologies) to provide: a virtual location for debate and European policy making; an educational technology platform to offer European-wide graduate and postgraduate level courses and for lifelong learning. 2. Development of an international training programme: An international Degree, Bachelor in ICT and Law An international Degree, Masters in ICT and Law An international Lifelong Learning Programme in ICT and Law 3. Identification of good practices in the teaching on ICT and Law. 4. Creation of a Europe-wide network of experts in ICT and Law to share the knowledge and disseminate the results and experiences. 5. Encourage the mobility of teachers, students and professionals between countries, sharing knowledge about similar and divergent aspects in Law&ICT.

Teaching approved projects: Erasmus and Long Life Learning ARCHIPELAGO (2008) The Archipelago of Humanistic Arts and Sciences proposes to hold a Conference in Brussels in spring or early summer 2008 on "Structuring Intercultural Dialogue". This theme is understood in the broadest sense: it regards dialogue not only between national, religious, linguistic and ethnic groups, but also between so-called 'hard' sciences and the humanistic area. In both education and research, communication between the sciences is increasingly problematic. An unintended effect of the Bologna process, with its short cycles, is to weaken links between disciplines. The competences formed by humanistic arts and sciences are necessary for employment, citizenship and personal satisfaction. Future scientists, engineers and other professionals, whose actions will deeply influence the world, find ever fewer opportunities to gain humanistic competences. Humanists or social scientists often have even less chance to build an acceptable level of scientific and technical culture. In an LLL perspective, better links disciplines and macro-areas must be established. The Archipelago (formed by the Erasmus Thematic Networks that explicitly place the human being at the centre of their activities [ constitutes an important forum for the humanities and social sciences. It spreads knowledge about the Networks and their activities, holds events that bring their combined expertise to bear on vital issues for European citizens. It publishes reports, an on-line journal and promotes trans-disciplinary collaboration across and beyond disciplinary borders. The Archipelago constitutes a unique 'Network of Networks', able to mobilise knowledge and insight gained through the collaboration of twenty Thematic Networks involving more than two thousand departments. With this Conference and the resulting publication, it wishes constructively to address a strategic issue, as well as to include in its activities the new LLL Networks, while preparing for 2009, European Year of Education and Culture.

Projects in evaluation IPRIGHT: AWARENESS RAISING ON PROTECTION OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS (18 months) The high level goal of the project is to establish and strengthen long-term sustainable cooperation and partnerships between Turkish universities and their EU counterparts in the area of intellectual property right, to accelerate the acquisition by Turkish universities of analytical skills and academic know-how on intellectual property right, and to contribute in creating in Turkey awareness on intellectual property right both in the related professional groups and in the society at large. Specific objectives: · Accelerate the acquisition by Turkish universities analytical skills and academic know-how, expertise, experience and best practices and procedures in the area of intellectual property rights and related EU acquis · Develop human capital on intellectual property rights in Turkey · Create increased awareness and understanding on intellectual property rights issues and the related EU acquis in Turkey that target the involvement of wider community groups in intellectual property rights- NGO’s, business sectors, professional organisations, public, etc. · Promote the project and ensure high visibility of EU support and the idea of civil society dialogue in Turkey

The present steering committee (and some others) should act as the workshop PC, you and I can act as the PC chairs. Then, we ask for contributions and can - hopefully - have 9 or more contributions to fill a workshop. That is the one activity - self-financing of the workshop series of LEFIS - the other - also can a yearly book. That's it, not more as a starter. Topics can be selected as you may wish; in general, it is best to reflect the ongoing research of LEFIS members.
