En las noticias Task: You are writing a Spanish article or news brief. It can be a serious news story or a humorous “spoof.” The news story should be in the past tense (using the preterite and the imperfect) and include information about: What happened Where & when the event took place Who was involved Your news story should be at least 80 words and include one or more illustrations. The illustrations may be your own drawings or pictures from magazines, the internet, etc.

En las noticias Prewrite: Answer the following questions to organize your ideas for the story. Try to write out all of your responses in Spanish rather than in English. ¿Qué era el evento? (What was the event?) ¿Qué pasaba antes de que ocurrió? (What was going on before it happened?) ¿Cuándo ocurrió? (When did it happen?) ¿Dónde ocurrió? (Where did it happen?) ¿Quiénes estaban allí? (Who was there?) ¿Qué hicieron ellos? (What did they do?) ¿Cómo resultó la situación? (How did the situation turn out?)

En las noticias Draft: Now use your Prewrite notes to write a draft of your news story in Spanish. Be sure to write in complete sentences. Revise: Read through your news story to make sure that you included all of the information and your ideas flow and make sense. Check for correct use of vocabulary, grammar, & spelling. Make any necessary changes.

En las noticias Publish: You may either write the final copy of your news story neatly on a paper with your illustration(s) attached, or you may present it as a newscast and display your illustration(s). [Spanish notes are allowed during the newscast.] Assessment: This project will count as a test grade and will be graded using the JISD Rubric for Writing Tasks or the JISD Rubric for Speaking Tasks.
