To Be or Not to Be ☆ the verbs ser and estar both translate to “to be” in English ☆ in this chapter, we will learn when to use ser and when to use estar

Ser y Estar ☆ first, let’s review the forms of each verb: ser estar soy somos eres X es son estoy estamos estás X está están

Estar ☆ when trying to remember how to use estar, here is a helpful rhyme: “How you feel and where you are, always use the verb estar.” …in other words, use estar for location and for temporary conditions.

Examples of Estar ☆ an example of location: ¿Dónde está Paco? Where is Paco? Paco está en la playa con sus amigos. Paco is at the beach with his friends. I am located on the beach. I am not from the beach.

Examples of Estar ☆ an example of a temporary condition: ¿Cómo estás hoy? How are you today? Estoy muy bien, gracias. I am very well, thanks. I am currently & temporarily well. I will not always be well.
