What is the CELDT? ¿ Qué es el CELDT? California English Language Development Test / Prueba para medir el desarrollo del Ingles en California It is a test given every year to students who have been identified as English Learners. The purpose of the test is to see how well they know English. It is also used to monitor growth from year to year. Why was my student identified? ¿ Por qué fue identificado mi estudiante? 3 When parents register their children for school, they fill out a home language survey. / Cuando los padres matriculan en la escuela a sus niños, ellos llenan una encuesta del idioma del hogar. Who has to take it? ¿Quienes tienen que tomarlo? Only English Learners take the test from kindergarten through 12 th grade. / Solo los estudiantes de Inglés toman el examen desde Kindergarten hasta el grado 12. They take it only once a year, but they take it every year that they are an EL. / Ellos solo lo toman una vez al año, pero lo toman cada año que son EL. If they are a student returning to the district, they take it at the beginning of the school year during the annual testing window. What is on the test? Que hay en el examen? The test covers four parts of learning a new language. These four parts are called domains. How is the test scored? ¿Como se califica el examen? 2=Early Intermediate 2= Pre intermedio 14 Student can speak English in small phrases, and they still make errors. / Los estudiantes pueden hablar Inglés en pequeñas frases, y todavía cometen errores. They can write simple words or phrases./ Pueden escribir palabras o frases simples. Teachers will use many of the same strategies to help students make connections to what they are learning./ Los maestros usaran muchas estrategias similares para ayudar a que los estudiantes hagan la conexión a lo que están aprendiendo. 3=Intermediate 3=Intermedio 15 Students seem to communicate with ease./ Los estudiantes parecen comunicarse con mayor facilidad. You should be able to watch their bars grow over time. / Con el tiempo usted podrá observar las barras de crecimiento.

How much growth should my child grow in a year? ¿Cuánto crecimiento deberá mi niño tener en un año? 20 Generally, growing about a level a year is good. A child moving from beginning up make take a little longer. It is not uncommon to be an early intermediate student (2) or an intermediate student (3) for two years. / Generalmente, un nivel decrecimiento por año es bueno. What does reclassification mean? ¿Que significa reclasificación? 22 When an EL student is reclassified, that means that the student no longer needs language support. / Cuando un estudiante EL es reclasificado, significa que ya no necesita el apoyo en el idioma.
