Before I move on, I wish to add a final challenge that has to do with the Catholic and Jesuit identity of our works. You report that there is much being done to clarify and strengthen the Catholic and Jesuit identity of our institutions. Yet the reports also indicate that there continues to be much concern and there remains more to do, especially as institutions expand, as cultures become more secular and pluralistic, as institutions strive to excel in competitive contexts. This is not an issue of control or power, but of how or whether our institutions continue to be primarily apostolic instruments, clear about their primary aim of serving the mission of the Church and of the Society.
