Quasimodo: Compare your answers to the homework from yesterday with someone who sits near you.

Tarea:

Basically if it doesn’t fit into the uses of para then you need to use por.

A – Around a time/place Around, along a place Around a time Caminamos por el parque anoche. We walked around the park last night. Around a time Siempre cantas por la mañana. You always sing in the morning.

T – Through a place/location Ellos corrieron por esta calle con los torros. They ran through this street with the bulls. Entramos el banco por la puerta. We enter the bank through the door.

T – Transportation or means of communication Hablo con mi madre por Skype. I talk with my mom with Skype. Recibimos la carta por correo la semana pasada. We received the letter by mail last week. Ella prefiere viajar por tren. She prefers to travel by train.

R – Reason, cause, motivation For the sake of, on behalf of, because of, in favor of El hombre murió por el cáncer. The man died because of cancer. Los maestros hacen todo lo posible por sus estudiantes. The teachers do everything possible for the sake of their students.

A - After Going after something (like “going to get something”) Voy a la carnicería por bistec. I’m going to the butcher’s shop for steak. Vino por ella a las diez. I`m coming for her at 10 o`clock.

C - Cost El mecánico pagó mucho dinero por su taller. The mechanic paid a lot of money for his workshop. El novio pagó dos mil dólares por este anillo. The boyfriend/fiance paid 2 thousand dollars for this ring.

T – Thanks or apology Gracias por el regalo. Thanks for the gift. Lo siento por no saber. Sorry for not knowing.

E – Exchange/substitution Mi hermana está enferma y por eso tengo que trabajar por ella. My sister is sick so I have to work for her. Ellos necesitan cambiar este suéter por ese azul. They need to exchange this sweater for that blue one. NOTE: per and percent (kind of) fit into this as well La velocidad máxima es treinta millas por hora. The speed limit is 30 miles per hour. D - Duration Trabajaste para la lavandería por dos años. You worked for the laundromat for 2 years.

Tarea: Worksheet: Write por next to por sentences + tell me which part of ATTRACTED it fits into. THEN, translate all but 5 of these.
