Ser also uses the preposition “de” to express origin. Ejemplos: Yo soy de los Estados Unidos. Él es de Guatemala.

Use ser to express profession or occupation. Ejemplos: They are teachers. Ellos son profesores. We are students. Nosotros somos estudiantes.

NOTE: Unlike in English, Spanish doesn’t use the indefinite article (un, una) after ser when talking about professions unless the profession is working with an adjective or other description. Ejemplos: Yo soy profesora. (I am a teacher) Ella es una profesora buena. (She is a good teacher.)
