Foro Servidores .NET para Gestión de Sistemas con plataforma Microsoft 10 de Junio de 2002 Germán Díaz Product Manager, Servidores Dpto. Marketing Microsoft

Plataforma Microsoft .NET In terms of how we’re delivering on this foundation, it will include Clients, Services and Servers for running XML Web Service Solutions as well as Developer Tools for building XML Web Services and also a new generation of applications which are essentially “experiences” that combine the best of smart client based solutions with the immediacy and breadth of information over the internet. Let’s look at each element of the .NET Platform (next slide)

In summary, the benefits of creating a well-managed Windows environment are: Reducing the Cost Of Ownership for managing desktops and applications, and line-of-business server applications Increasing System Availability of critical line-of-business applications which will create higher satisfaction from employees and customers alike. Being able to easily Scale or Re-deploy systems to meet business demands All this will allow you to reallocate unused or idle resources to new higher-priority projects.

Perspectivas Para puestos de trabajo Para servidores Más productividad y autonomía en los usuarios Rapidez en la distribución de aplicaciones y actualizaciones Disminuir el efecto en el trabajo de los clientes Para servidores Eficacia en la distribución de aplicaciones centralizadas en el servidor y clusters Alta disponibilidad para los servidores y las aplicaciones Microsoft’s Vision for Management aims to make your businesses AGILE today and ready for the future. <click> For your Client infrastructure: You want to empower your growing number of users while using less administrative overhead. When deploying the latest versions of Office or upgrading to Windows XP, for example, you need faster deployment of applications and updates with greater success rates and decreased impact on user productivity For your Server infrastructure: You want to make sure you have an unobtrusive way to upgrade your server applications with the latest service packs or security updates. You also need to ensure high-availability of distributed departmental and data center servers and server-based applications through proactive management so you can meet your service level agreements. And, as your server infrastructure grows, you need a way to rapidly expand your server clusters to achieve high scalability. The end result is an IT organization that can delivers on the vision of business agility through systems that are easier to use and more cost-effective to manage.

ITIL is a set of books that comprehensively and systematically presents best practices in all phases of the management of an information system. Each book describes the "infrastructure" -- the hardware, software, computer related communications, documentation, skills, and processes -- required to support one activity of managing an information system. Each book covers a function or aspect of information technology management, providing cross-references to the other books. Together the books form a unique reference set for the management of installed software and the delivery of IT as a service.   We have taken this set of processes and applied them to our operations lifecycle to create the MOF Process Model: ·        The Changing phase includes: o     Having a formal process for making controlled change happen which clearly defines both the steps and the relevant responsibilities and authorities. o     Knowing what the infrastructure is that is to be changed in terms of both creating and maintaining the data base of configurable items. o     Setting up and ideally automating the process of distributing software to the platforms on which it is to run. ·        The Operating phase includes all the activities to: o     Measure activities and monitor them against key indicators in order to perceive actual or potential problems as early as possible. o     Run the systems (e.g. start and stop tasks, allocate resources, backup and restore key data, manage storage) o     Run the networks(set up and propagate routing tables and algorithms, manage routers) o     Manage the directories that are an essential part of the production systems infrastructure, setting up accounts, setting policies and permissions, tuning their performance, etc. ·        The Support phase includes the ITL processes covering: o     Help desk, i.e. receiving and responding to the user/customer call, and providing the help necessary to get them back in action o     Problem management, i.e. taking the incident as captured by the Help Desk, ensuring that underlying cause is determined and forwarding that information to the appropriate team for Supporting Operating Service Desk Incident Management Problem Management Operations Review

Coincidencia de fronteras de SMS 2003/AD Integración con Agregar/Quitar Programas de Windows 2000 Creación de paquetes desde ficheros Windows Installer ADSynch is a tool that you can download from ms.com currently for SMS 2.0 where it creates SMS “collections” from Active Directory OU’s. In Topaz, we’ll integrate/automate/schedule this, as well as add Global Security Groups to the info that gets synched. Site alignment – both SMS and Win2k have sites based upon IP subnets. If AD is in place, Topaz will just map to these sites so admins don’t have to manually enter all these site addresses for SMS. Add/Remove programs in Win2k Package creation – when you create a package in SMS, there are parameters about how to install, etc. In Topaz, if you just point SMS at a Windows Installer (.msi) file, SMS will pick all that info up from that file.

Herramientas mejoradas Nuevas herramientas Administrativas Mejoras en las operaciones Mejoras de rendimiento Resource Explorer, Collection browsing Software Metering Mejoras en la escalabilidad Métrica de Aplicaciones en Terminal Services The new admin tools are designed to help with troubleshooting and repetitive tasks. For example, if I notice that certain recipients don’t successfully get an advertisement, it’s difficult to re-ad to them so they get the software. Tools for re-advertising, stopping an advertisement, managing site accts and distribution servers, etc – all about improving operations. Performance enhancements are mainly in the user interface – opens faster, handles sites with large numbers of packages/advertisements/resources. Software metering – currently doesn’t scale well (guess that’s what happens when you use FoxPro for a database, eh?) The metering has been 100% rewritten. Good news – it’s about 10x smaller than it was, and infinitely more scalable. Bad news – the new metering will not provide “online” metering support. Online metering means that before I run an application, it checks with a licensing server to verify licenses are available to use, then allows/disallows me from running. In Topaz, I’ll be able to track/report what apps are being run by users, and compile a report to show how many users at any given time were running an application. I’ll also still be able to deny users/machines from running apps based on user/machine, time of day, etc. However, no real time verification of licenses like in the current solution. Our customer research has indicated that the online metering only applied in about 1-3% of our customers, and so it was much more important to fix the features for the majority.

Why SMS? SMS vs Microsoft Update, Corporate Edition Better platform support MUCE – Win2k, XP SMS – Win9x, NT4, Win2k, XP Better content support MUCE – only critical updates for Windows SMS – all content Better admin control MUCE – no targeting, no hierarchical admin Positioning for your customers If they have SMS, use SMS – no need to eval MUCE If they don’t have SMS, they should eval both MUCE and SMS, and choose which solves their needs SMS is the primary tool for large organizations, MUCE for small/medium businesses.
