Known as the White City, is the second most populous country, with inhabitants. It houses three volcanoes: Misti, Chachani, and Pichi Pichu, and a river, the Chili. It the third most visited city in the country.
The city was founded on August 15, 1540, under the name of “Villa Hermosa de Nuestra Señora de la Asunta” for the Marquis Don Francisco Pizarro, but on the 22 September 1541 the monarch Carlos V ordered in a Royal Decree that it be named "Ciudad de Arequipa."
