In languages, a verb shows actions or a state of being The base form of a verb is called an infinitive The term “to conjugate” means you change the infinitive (the base form of the verb) to reflect WHO is doing the action

_____ verbs _____ verbs _____ verbs In Spanish there are 3 types of infinitives: They are: -ar -er -ir _____ verbs _____ verbs _____ verbs

To write a sentence: You have to say WHO is doing the action AND what ACTION that person is doing

So when you use a verb to tell the action, you have to conjugate using a “verb ending” to identify who is doing that action:

endings for -ar verbs -o -amos -as -áis -a -an yo nosotros/nosotras tú vosotros/vosotras él ella usted ellos ellas ustedes -o -amos -as -áis -a -an

endings for -er verbs -o -emos -es -éis -e -en yo nosotros/nosotras tú vosotros/vosotras él ella usted ellos ellas ustedes -o -emos -es -éis -e -en

endings for -ir verbs -o -imos -es -ís -e -en yo nosotros/nosotras tú vosotros/vosotras él ella usted ellos ellas ustedes -o -imos -es -ís -e -en

Steps for conjugating verbs: Identify WHAT the action is (the verb) Identify WHO is doing the action (the subject) Drop -ar, -er , or -ir off of the infinitive Identify the correct verb ending (use the charts!) Add the ending onto the end!
