Flash Topic: Malaria This year alone, some 438,000 people are estimated to have died of malaria, according to WHO. Also, WHO states over 3.2 billion are at risk. The difference between malaria and The zika Virus is that the effects of one are treatable and subside over time. If the Zika virus reaches this level of severity, potentially half the world's population could be at risk for serious untreatable side effects of the virus.
