El pasado Hay dos formas principales del pasado: El pretérito Actions completed in the past El imperfecto Continuous, habitual recurring action in the past

El pretérito Usos del pretérito: Anoche Carmen fue al supermercado. Express events/actions in the past that began or ended at a specific time in the past. (Actions that are complete, or can put on a time-line) Anoche Carmen fue al supermercado. Compró una caja de detergente. El dependiente puso todo en una bolsa.

El imperfecto Usos del imperfecto: Express habitual, continuous, or repeated actions/events in the past. (The moment when the action began or ended is unimportant.) Carmen iba al supermercado con frecuencia. Cada día compraba las cosas que necesitaba. Casi siempre pagaba con tarjeta de crédito.

Comparaciones Completed Action Iban al cine todos los sábados. Repeated, habitual Iban al cine todos los sábados. Siempre se sentaban. Todas las noches se acostaban tarde. Completed Action Fueron al cine el sábado pasado. Ayer se sentaron. Anoche se acostaron temprano.
