-er and –ir verbs are the same in the preterite! Notice anything? -er and –ir verbs are the same in the preterite!

Nosotros The nosotros form in preterite is the same as the –ir present tense, NOT the –er! Context clues, such as ayer, help you to know whether the verb is in the preterite or the present tense.

There are some stem-changes in preterite –er/-ir verbs! CUIDADO! There are some stem-changes in preterite –er/-ir verbs! If it is an –ir verb, it will have a stem-change in the preterit, but it will be either o-u or e-i
