Usos del pretérito The preterite is used to narrate a completed action or a series of completed actions in the past: Anoche fuimos al cine. Vimos una película cómica y nos reímos mucho. Después cenamos en un buen restaurante. Last night we went to the movies. We saw a funny movie and laughed a lot. Afterwards we ate dinner in a nice restaurant.
Usos del pretérito The preterite is often an interruption to another event in progress in the past: Marcos estaba leyendo el periódico cuando oyó el anuncio. Marcos was reading the newspaper when he heard the announcement.
