The imperfect tense, continued Remember, the imperfect is used to talk about routine actions in the past (“used to…”) Ar verbs: -aba, -abas, -aba, -ábamos, -aban Er/Ir verbs; -ía, -ías, -ía, -íamos, -ían Yo montaba mi triciclo. Nosotros vivíamos en una casa grande.

Irregulars ser- era, eras, era, éramos, eran Ir- iba, ibas, iba, íbamos, iban Ver-veía, veías, veía, veíamos, veían Ellos siempre iban al cine. Yo veía muchos partidos de béisbol.

Description of people, places, things. Mi abuelita tenía pelo corto. La casa era pequeña. Había mucha gente en la fiesta.

To tell time in the past Eran las seis cuando llegaste. Era la una y media cuando salimos.

To state age in the past Cuando yo tenía diez años, fuimos a California. Me regalaron la bicicleta cuando tenía quince años.

To describe an action in progress in the past, interrupted by another action. Yo veía la tele cuando me llamaste. Marcos limpiaba el suelo cuando se cayó (fell).
