What? WHAT has to be done? ¿Que hay que hacer en la cocina? Use the expression HAY QUE to tell what has to be done, NOT who has to do it. You will often see the word “hacer” (to do) in the sentence ¿Que hay que hacer en la cocina? Hay que lavar los platos.

“Pop-Up” Answer Objective: Review the speaking questions. Practice listening skills. Provide appropriate responses in Spanish. How: Split class into 2 teams. Each student on the team will get a chore expression card. Teacher will ask the chore question in Spanish. 1-2 people on each team will hold up their card as an appropriate answer. (Hint! Affirmative “tύ” Commands Used to tell someone to do something. REGULAR affirmative commands are the same as the él/ella forms in the present tense. Ex: lavar él lava ¡Lava los platos! When you drop the “él (he)”, then you are no longer saying what “he” does. Instead, you are telling someone to do something as a command.
Practice with regular commands Cut the grass. Take out the trash. Wash the dishes. Iron the shirt. Sweep the floor.
You must MEMORIZE these! Irregular Commands Verbs with a stem-change in the present tense also have a stem-change in the command. Ex: Cerrar = e ie ¡Cierra la puerta! Some verbs are completely irregular in the command form: Decir - Di Poner - Pon Ir - Ve Ser - Sé Salir - Sal Venir - Ven Tener - Ten Hacer - Haz You must MEMORIZE these!
