La Casa - The House Unit 4 – Part II

Vocabulary Part II H:\Avancemos Challenge Spanish 8\Unit 4 House\Vocab II with answers.docx In small groups, use OLD vocabulary to work together to define the new CHORE VERB vocabulary. We will review as a whole-class.

What? WHAT has to be done? ¿Que hay que hacer en la cocina? Use the expression HAY QUE to tell what has to be done, NOT who has to do it. You will often see the word “hacer” (to do) in the sentence ¿Que hay que hacer en la cocina? Hay que lavar los platos.

Tener que…Specifically who HAS TO do what Conjugate the verb tener, add the word que, and keep the regular verb in the infinitive form ¿Quien tiene que lavar los platos? Yo tengo que lavar los platos. Mi hermana tiene que lavar los platos

Practice….in Speaking ¿Qué hay que hacer en el dormitorio? ¿ Quién tiene que cortar el cesped? ¿ Qué hay que hacer en la sala? ¿ Quién tiene que poner la mesa? ¿ Qué hay que hacer en el comedor? Add these for “Pop Up” Game: ¿ Quién limpia la casa? ¿ Quién pasa la aspiradora?

Interview Interview a partner on what chores in the house are masculine or feminine responsibilities in your home. Follow the model. After you hear the response you will know if it is a male (tarea masculina) or female (tarea feminina) or both (los dos) chore and mark the box on the chart. We will discuss at the end which chores are more feminine/masculine in your household and your thoughts…

Push it Practice Create a sentence in Spanish using OLD vocabulary terms to discuss chores in your house. For example: Use preferir, gustar, querer, necesitar, porque… Write it out. Affirmative “tύ” Commands Used to tell someone to do something. REGULAR affirmative commands are the same as the él/ella forms in the present tense. Ex: lavar  él lava  ¡Lava los platos! When you drop the “él (he)”, then you are no longer saying what “he” does. Instead, you are telling someone to do something as a command.

Practice with regular commands Cut the grass. Take out the trash. Wash the dishes. Iron the shirt. Sweep the floor.

You must MEMORIZE these! Irregular Commands Verbs with a stem-change in the present tense also have a stem-change in the command. Ex: Cerrar = e ie ¡Cierra la puerta! Some verbs are completely irregular in the command form: Decir - Di Poner - Pon Ir - Ve Ser - Sé Salir - Sal Venir - Ven Tener - Ten Hacer - Haz You must MEMORIZE these!

Command practice Textbook: Page 283 #12 Lava los platos. Saca la basura. Plancha la ropa. Trae el pastel. Ven a casa. Ve a la tienda. Barre el suelo. Pon la mesa. Sal temprano. Haz la cama. Corta el cesped. Se buena.

Tarea “Reteaching and Practice” Workbook Pg. 20 #1-3 Pg. 21 #4 and 5 (DO NOT DO #6!) This will be collected.

DOP Reminder You can use direct object pronouns with affirmative commands. We use “lo” or “la” to say “it”. Sweep the floor. floor = it Barre el suelo el suelo = lo (masc, sing) We use “los” or “las” to say “them” Wash the plates.  plates = them Lava los platos  platos = los (masc, plural) Attach the DOP to the end. Barrelo. (Sweep it) Lavalos. (Wash them) DOP Key el  lo La  la Los  los Las  las
