Los verbos con raíces (stem-changers) In preterite tense, stem-changers only occur in –ir verbs and –er verbs when a vowel proceeds the –er as in leer, caer, creer. The stem-change only occurs in the 3rd person singular and 3rd person plural forms. (el, ella, Ud / ellos, ellas, Uds) forming a shoe instead of a boot. For –ir verbs, the stem-change always occur in the second to last vowel.
