4 3 Every infinitive has 2 parts: 1. STEM- The stem is the part of the infinitive before one of the 3 endings. (-AR, -ER, -IR) For example in comer– It is com... (the part before the –er ending). 2. ENDING – The ending is the –ar, -er, -ir part of the infinitive.

5 4 Comer (to eat)= Com Correr (to run) = Corr Beber (to drink)= Beb Leer (to read) = Lee Part 2 – THE ENDING -ER Part 1 - THE STEM

6 5 To form the present tense: STEM + Verb ending -o -es -e -emos -éis -en Keep the stem, drop the -er ending, add the new ending.
