Los verbos reflexivos Reflexive verbs are used when the subject of the sentence is doing and receiving the action of the verb (You are doing something to yourself.) You know that a verb is reflexive if the infinitive ends with the letters se. (lavarse, acostarse) Many verbs can be either reflexive or non reflexive. If you are doing something to someone or something else, it is NOT reflexive. Me lavo las manos. Lavo el carro. Me despierto a las 5:30. Despierto a mis hijos a las 7:00. When you use a reflexive verb with a body part or clothing, use the definite article. Me pongo la ropa. Me lavo el pelo.

Reflexive pronouns can be ATTACHED to infinitives, present participles, or affirmative commands. Yo me ducho. Yo voy a ducharme. Me estoy duchando. Yo estoy duchándome. ¡Dúchate! ALWAYS use an infinitive after prepositions. Antes de vestirme, me pongo el maquillaje. Después de ducharme, me seco el pelo.
