Pronombres posesivos Posessive Pronouns

El mío La mía Los míos Las mías El tuyo La tuya Los tuyos Las tuyas mine mine mine mine El tuyo La tuya Los tuyos Las tuyas yours yours yours yours El suyo La suya Los suyos Las suyas His/hers his/hers his/hers his/hers El nuestro La nuestra Los (as) nuestros (as) ours ours ours El suyo La suya Los (as) suyos theirs/yours theirs/yours theirs/yours

Possessive pronouns replace nouns to express ownership of an object. In Spanish, possessive pronouns agree in gender and number with the thing possessed (not the person…hence “his” and “hers” towels would both say “la suya”) Aquí están mis maletas.

The direct article usually accompanies the possessive pronoun, except after the verb “ser”. Nuestro profesor es de Chile. El nuestro es de El Salvador. -Este plato es mío. -No, es mío. -Te digo que es mío. -Mamá…¿de quién es el plato? -Es mío.

Clarificación. Because “El suyo…” can mean “his” “hers” “theirs” and “yours”, for clarity they can be replaced by “de él” “de ella” “de –name—”. Do not use both the possessive pronoun and “de él”… at the same time!
