E L INFINITIVO  Recuérdate que hay tres tipos de infinitivo en el español. Ahora, vamos a ver los verbos –ER e –IR.  Remember that there are three types of infinitive in Spanish. Now, we are going to look at –ER and –IR verbs.  Unos ejemplos:

L OS VERBOS –ER  Para conjugar el verbo –ER, hay que remover la terminación –ER y añadir la terminación que está de acuerdo con el sujeto.  To conjugate the –ER verb, you must remove the –ER ending, and add the ending that agrees with the subject.  Las terminaciones para los verbos –ER yo-onosotros-emos tú-esvosotros-éis él, ella, Ud.-eellos, ellas, Uds.-en

U N EJEMPLO  beber yobebonosotrosbebemos túbebesvosotrosbebéis él, ella, Ud. bebeellos, ellas, Uds. beben

O TRO EJEMPLO  leer yoleonosotrosleemos túleesvosotrosleéis él, ella, Ud. leeellos, ellas, Uds. leen

L OS VERBOS –IR  Para conjugar el verbo –IR, hay que remover la terminación –IR y añadir la terminación que está de acuerdo con el sujeto.  To conjugate the –IR verb, you must remove the –IR ending, and add the ending that agrees with the subject.  Las terminaciones para los verbos -IR yo-onosotros-imos tú-esvosotros-ís él, ella, Ud.-eellos, ellas, Uds.-en

U N EJEMPLO  abrir yoabronosotrosabrimos túabresvosotrosabrís él, ella, Ud. abreellos, ellas, Uds. abren

O TRO EJEMPLO  escribir yoescribonosotrosescribimos túescribesvosotrosescribís él, ella, Ud. escribeellos, ellas, Uds. escriben

D OS VERBOS  Recuérdate: como los verbos –AR, cuando hay dos verbos juntos y uno depende del otro, el segundo verbo se queda en el infinitivo.  Remember: like –AR verbs, when there are two verbs together and one depends on the other, the second verb remains in the infinitive.  Ejemplo:  Los estudiantes deben estudiar para el examen. conjugado infinitivo

O RACIONES NEGATIVAS  Como los verbos –AR, para formar una frase negativa, pones no antes del verbo conjugado.  Like with –AR verbs, to form a negative sentence, put the no before the conjugated verb.  Ejemplo  Antonio no come carne.  Antonio doesn’t eat meat.  Juan no recibe buenas notas.  Juan doesn’t receive good grades.

P RÁCTICA 1. Los niños no ______ (comprender) el francés. 2. Nosotros ______ (deber) practicar el español. 3. Yo ______ (aprender) a hablar español. 4. Tú ______ (vivir) en la Carolina del Sur. 5. Mariana ______ (leer) una novela romántica para clase. 6. Nosotros ______ (escribir) un ensayo en español. 7. Teresa ______ (comer) una tortilla española. 8. Yo ______ (asistir) la Universidad de Francis Marion. 9. Tú ______ (beber) un café con leche. 10. Ellos ______ (correr) mucho.
