WRITING A SPANISH ESSAY BY MRS. MAYER, SPANISH GRADE 8, RDMS

TAKE IT STEP BY STEP AND YOU WILL DO MUY BIEN! SO…VAMOS….LETS GO! WRITING AN ESSAY IN SPANISH IS NO DIFFERENT THAN WRITING ONE IN ENGLISH

LETS START WITH A SAMPLE QUESTION… You want to impress your neighbor with how much you know about Spanish foods and how to be a waiter/waitress. Why? Because she owns Sabór Latino, the most popular Spanish restaurant in New York City, and if you get a job waiting tables there, you can make up to $1,000 a night! And you get to meet tons of celebrities each and every night……you WANT that job! So write a note to Señora Mouriño telling her that you understand that she is looking for waiters/waitresses, the reasons for why you would love to work for her and why she should hire you. Make sure to talk about your personality and good traits, your skills with setting tables, the foods and drinks that might be served, and your knowledge of how to set a table for lunch and dinner (Sabór Latino does not serve breakfast.)

STEP 1: TAKE INVENTORY OF WHAT IS BEING ASKED FOR WHAT EXACTLY IS NEEDED TO ANSWER COMPLETELY? MAKE A MENTAL LIST OF WHAT IS NEEDED: YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A WAITER/WAITRESS I AM A GOOD CHOICE AND HERE ARE THE REASONS WHY I CAN SET A TABLE FOR LUNCH (MENTION FOODS ---ALL COURSES, BEVERAGES, PLACE SETTINGS, CONDIMENTS ) I CAN SET A TABLE FOR DINNER (MENTION FOODS ---ALL COURSES, BEVERAGES, PLACE SETTINGS, CONDIMENTS )

STEP 2: WRITE AN INTRODUCTION If writing a letter, start with a greeting: BUSINESS LETTER Estimado/a Sr./Sra.Dear Mr./Mrs./Ms. Estimada Srta.Dear Miss PERSONAL LETTER Querido/aDear

STEP 2: WRITE AN INTRODUCTION MAKE SURE TO RESTATE THE QUESTION: Ud. busca un camarero para su restaurante, el Sabor Latino. Yo quisiera el trabajo. or…. İ yo soy perfecto para el trabajo!

STEP 3: DEVELOP THE BODY Yo soy un chico sociable, simp á tico, trabajador, paciente, ordenado y gracioso. Me encantan los restaurantes. Me gusta ser camarero. Yo puedo limpiar mesas. GIVE THE DETAILS

STEP 3: DEVELOP THE BODY primero/segundofirst/second tercero/cuarto third/fourth también/tampocoalso/neither yand oor siif despuésafter luegolater entoncesso, then USE TRANSITION WORDS:

STEP 3: DEVELOP THE BODY PRIMERO yo soy un chico sociable… SEGUNDO me encantan los… TERCERO yo puedo limpiar mesas…. TAMBIÉN yo puedo poner la mesa… WITH TRANSITION WORDS, THE ESSAY FLOWS BETTER…

USE TRANSITION WORDS HERE TOO…

STEP 4: WRITE THE CONCLUSION Business AtentamenteSincerely SaludosRegards Personal (both very common) Un (fuerte) abrazo A (strong) hug AfectuosamenteAffectionately IF A LETTER, USE A PROPER CLOSING

STEP 4: WRITE THE CONCLUSION Atentamente, Joe Johnson

TAKE IT STEP BY STEP AND GIVE IT YOUR TODO! PUES… İ VAMOS A ESCRIBIR! SEE? YOU CAN DO THIS REALLY WELL!

NOW TRY WRITING AN ESSAY FOR THE FOLLOWING: The mother of your friend Ann Ramirez is a hugely successful music agent and she represents your favorite band/performer. You heard that she is looking to hire some of Anns friends to help serve a fancy sit-down Spanish luncheon for the band/performer and some Spanish investors. Imagine, you could be inches away from your absolute favorite performer! Write a letter to Mrs. Ramirez that would convince her to hire you above all the other candidates for the job. Discuss your character, your knowledge of Spanish and Spanish foods and drinks, and your table serving abilities. Good luck!
