THE FUTURE TENSE: THE REGULAR FORMS Simple Future and The Future Tenses

SIMPLE FUTURE  When the future action is closely tied to the present, Spanish speakers usually use the expression “ir + a + infinitive” rather than the future tense.

SIMPLE FUTURE CONT’D  The simple future is very easy to use.  Conjugate ir to the present tense: Ir-to go Yo voy Nos. vamos Tú vas Vos. vais Ud. VaUds. van

SIMPLE FUTURE CONT’D  After conjugating Ir to the subject, just add “a” and the infinitive of the following verb (action of the subject).  Examples: 1.Voy a salir con mis amigos este noche. 2.Vamos a ver el libro de Julio en clase. 3.Vais a volar para Atlanta este tarde.

THE FUTURE TENSE  The future Tense in Spanish is a simple tense. As in all simple tenses, a set of endings is added to a stem of the verb.  In the case of the regular future tense, the endings are added to the end of the infinitive (non-conjugated verb) verb.

THE FUTURE TENSE CONT’D  The future endings, given below, are the same for all three verb conjugations.  Yo -é, Tú -ás, Ud. -á, Nos. -emos, Vos. -éis, Uds. –án  Examples of Future Tense Sentences. 1. Felipe trabajará en la oficina de su padre. 2. Yo visitaré a mis abuelos en Madrid. 3. Marcos y Ricardo jugarán en el parque todo el verano.
