Pretérito e imperfecto verbo de estado (BRIEF review, will be reviewed again in chapter 9). Imperfect= past situations or state, general, not specific time Preterite= change into or out of state, specific time period

"Pude llegar a tiempo" - I managed to arrive on time - meaning that in spite of obstacles or poor timing or whatever, I managed to get there. podía" was having the ability to do it in general. "Pude" is whether or not I did it "that one time".
