2 Today, we are going to talk about storage. Hopefully when we reach the end of our lesson, you will be able to make the most of the space that you have for the storage of your things. 3 Is clutter a problem in your home? Convenient, flexible storage doesnt just happen. It requires careful planning. The first step in improving your home storage is to consider your familys needs. Space for each family members clothing and favorite things should be provided. It can be as easy as learning your ABCs. ¿Es un problema el desorden en tu casa? Almacenar de una manera efícaz no es fácil. Esto necesita de una cuidadosa planeación. El primer paso para mejorar el almacenamiento en casa es considerar las necesidades familiares. 5 The first step in improving your home storage is to make an inventory of the items to be stored. It helps to list what items need to be stored in each room of the house. El primer paso para mejora el almacenamiento en su casa es hacer un inventario de las cosas que necesitan ser guardadas. Ayudara hacer una lista de las cosas que necesitan ser almacenadas en cada cuarto de la casa.

7 Second, study the storage space you have available. Third, compare the inventory to the space available. Segundo, estudie el espacio para almacenar que usted tenga a su disposición. Tercero, compare el inventario con el espacio disponible.

11 Making the best use of storage space means determining where items need to be stored to be used most conveniently. -Store items that are used most often in the most accessible place. - Store items at the point of their first use. -Store items used together in the same location. - Store like items together. 13 If storage space is limited, it may be necessary to make some decisions about whether items no longer in use ought to be sold or given away, or at least stored away from the main living area. The 2-year rule is a good general guide: If you havent used, or at least taken an item out of storage for 2 years or two seasons, give serious consideration to disposing of it. You can find ideas and solutions to storage problems in home magazines and catalogs, as well as furniture stores, lumber and hardware stores, and home improvement centers. 21 A third option for storage is to either buy or build the storage systems needed. Storage units may be either wall mounted or freestanding. Whether you purchase units or build or have them built depends on skill, family budget, and time available. Una tercera opción para almacenar es comprar o construir los mubles adecuados que necesite. 23 Simple shelving units can be built out of 3 or 4 long, 1 X 8 boards and bricks or concrete blocks. One advantage of this type shelving is that it is portable, and you can easily take it with you if you move. The boards can be sanded and stained, painted, or covered with a washable contact paper. Estantes sencillos pueden construirse con 3 o 4 pies (.9 o 1.2m) de longitud con tablas de 1 X 8 pulgadas (2.5cm X 20cm) y tabiques o bloques de concreto. 25 Another way to add shelf space is to purchase brackets and mount the brackets on the wall. A 1 x 8 or 1 X 12 board then becomes the shelf. These should be added at a higher location on the wall where small children cannot reach them. The board could be painted or stained as you desire. Otra manera de agregar espacio para estantes es comprando soportes para fijar en la pared. Una tabla de 1 x 8 (2.5 cm X 20 cm) o 1 x 12 pulgadas (2.5cm X 30 cm) puede ser convertida en un estante. 27 If you have a storage space that is too tall, you can add a secondary shelf so that you can store shorter items on the base level and then taller items on the higher level. 29 If you need additional hanging space or more accessible hanging space, there are several ways to accomplish this goal. One way is to purchase wire hangers for a rod. Another way is to make your own wire extenders out of a medium gauge wire. Measure your space for the length of rod you will need. Measure the distance needed between the rods. Then cut your wire so that you have ample length for securing it around the rod. Si usted necesita mas espacio para colgar o espacio quiere hacerlo mas accesible, hay varias maneras de lograrlo. 31 A more complex way to get an additional rod or an adjustable rod is to cut a piece of wood so that it will have notches for the rod to fit into at different levels. You must cut a board for each side of the closet and then make sure your measurement for the length of the rod is accurate. If you are simply adding a second rod, measure and match the original rod. 37 This shelving unit requires only a sheet of ¾ plywood 4 X 4 feet, finishing nails, and glue. Saw the plywood into 3, 16 sections. Two sections will support the shelves. 39 Use cardboard boxes or apple crates to build a moveable closet. You will have a rod for hanging clothes and shelves for storing folded clothes.
