No other verb is like it. But many Spanish verbs are regular, that is, they follow a pattern.

Each center will be about 15 minutes, so pay attention to the time, but don’t rush either. Clean up and organize your table before moving on to the next one. Don’t get up for any reason. If you need more supplies, just ask. For this activity, DO NOT get into my crayons, scissors, glue, or paper without asking. If you do not understand the directions written at your table follow these steps: – Reread them – Talk it over with your group – Reread them as a group – Ask me :)

La tienda de ropa y la papelería Eventually we will be doing an activity where we buy and sell different things and barter with prices (a valuable tool in the Spanish-speaking world). In this activity, create clothes or school supplies from the materials given to you and make sure you save them for a later date. Each person should be making their own set of things, so this is not a group activity. Be creative and make your stuff look nice… I mean people are going to be “buying” it. Make at least five items and include the prices in pesos. **10 pesos = 1 dollar

Cultura- Hacer trueques Knowing how to bargain for goods when you’re shopping at a traditional Spanish market can help you get the best merchandise at the best price. Bargaining, or haggling, is a negotiation tactic that many people are unaccustomed to. If you shop in traditional Spanish markets, you should get there early. Many merchants feel that they must make a first sale to kick off their day. If you find yourself in such a situation, you may notice that the merchant doesn’t want you to leave without buying something and is therefore more willing to reduce the price to make a sale, and you can end up with a bargain. Learning good bargaining tactics means you should never have to pay full price for anything.

Comunicación- Hacer trueques The goal of the shopkeepers, or los vendedores, is to sell the most items for the highest profit. Shopkeepers must write down everything they sell and how much they sell it for. You cannot sell more than 5 items. You may not give items away for free or you’re disqualified. Make sure everything has a price, over 100, on a separate sheet of paper. Both sheets you will be given are a SECRET!

Comunicación- Hacer trueques The goal of the the customers, or los clientes, it to buy 5 different things at the lowest price. Don’t buy more than 5 things! Los clientes must keep track of what they buy and how much they buy it for. You don’t have a money limit, but you want to spend the least amount possible You may not tell anyone how much money you have spent.

Comunicación- Hacer trueques ¡¡¡NO INGLÉS!!!- If you speak English, you are disqualified! Each sale ends with a handshake. Each person will be a customer/shopkeeper. Don’t be afraid of your vocabulary lists! They are there to help you. When you have bought your 5 items or sold your five items, sit down. If not, staying standing. A shopkeeper can only talk to one person at a time. This means, don’t group up and barter your prices together. It’s an A-B conversation… At the end, make sure to write the totaled amount next to your name on each sheet and circle it. Then staple the two sheets together with the vendedor sheet on top and turn everything into the your hour’s tarea box.

Comunicación- Hacer trueques Hay dos ganadores en cada clase. – El vendedor mejor. – El cliente mejor. Ganan ¡20 PESOS!

Comunicación- Hacer trueques ¿Qué vocabulario usamos? – Necesitar/Pagar/Buscar/Comprar/Hablar/Hay – Es barato. – Es caro. – ¿Cuánto cuesta?/ ¿Cuánto es?/ ¿Qué vale? – Me gusta(n)/ No me gusta(n) Otro vocabulario: – ¡Es una ganga!- What a bargain! – Último precio- Last price – ¡Es un robo!- It’s a steal! – ¡Vaya timo!- What a rip-off!

Comunicación- Hacer trueques Add up your totals for each sheet, and write and circle the total at the top. On your vendedor sheet if you didn’t sell all your items, put a zero in the price sold. On your cliente sheet, if you do not buy five items, then you add a thousand to your total for each item you didn’t buy.
