MARIACHI It originated in the state of Jalisco, in Western Mexico. Typically, it uses LOTS of stringed instruments like violins and guitars. Mariachis are often hired to play at events like weddings or quinceañeras. They are also sometimes thought of as a tool to serenade women ESCUCHEMOS!!! Facts that will make you SMARTER!!!

CORRIDO These are ballads (like poems, they tell a STORY) that originated during the Mexican fight for independence. Like slave songs, these ballads often sing of an oppressed people, a shared history, and daily life. While originally they were about Mexican independence, now corridos are often about drug trafficking, immigration, migrant workers, and other relevant issues to our day. ESCUCHEMOS!!! LA BANDA This a traditional form of music that is brass-based (think trombones, trumpets, and tubas). Banda evolved from the German and Polish music style called polka. Banda often mixes with many different styles of music to create a unique sound. ESCUCHEMOS!!! Facts that will make you SMARTER!!!
