3 In Spanish-speaking countries, the week begins on Monday. Notice that the days of the week are not capitalized. The days of the week are all masculine. Days of the week ending in -s do not change form in the plural. Only the article changes. lunes... 4 When used with the days of the week, the definite article has the special meaning “on.” No trabajo el lunes... I don’t work on Monday. No trabajo los martes … I don’t work on Tuesdays. Hay una fiesta el miércoles …There is a party on Wednesday. Hay muchas fiestas los viernes …There are many parties on Fridays.

5 ¿Qué día es hoy? What day is today? Hoy es miércoles. Today is Wednesday. ¿Qué día es mañana? What day is tomorrow? Mañana es jueves. Tomorrow is Thursday.

6 Note that, like the days of the week, they are not capitalized. Watch your spelling and pronunciation. To express “in a certain month,” use the preposition “en.” Vamos a México en enero... When it is winter in New York, NY, it is summer in Santiago, Chile.

9 To ask today’s date you can say: ¿Cual es la fecha de hoy? To respond use the following formula: Hoy es el number de month. Examples: Hoy es el veintiséis de septiembre.  Hoy es el cinco de mayo  Hoy es el catorce de febrero If it is the first of the month use “primero” instead of “uno” Example: Es el primero de agosto. – It’s the first of August.
