2 ENGLISH Adjective examples They live in a beautiful house. Lisa is wearing a sleeveless shirt today. This shop is much nicer. She wore a beautiful dress. Ben is an adorable baby.

3 Number and Gender Adjectives are words which describe nouns or pronouns. In Spanish, all adjectives must agree in number and gender with the nouns they describe. Gender : nouns are either masculine or feminine Number: nouns are either singular or plural.

4 Nouns and gender The word “THE” is written FOUR different ways in Spanish. Look at the front board and write these down. Also, write these on your VOCABULARY sheet. Each noun in spanish is either MASCULINE or FEMININE. How do you know if they are masculine or feminine?

5 Nouns – How do you know? If a noun ends with an “O” it is MASCULINE If a noun ends with an “A” it is FEMININE What about all other nouns? Check out the next slide………..

6 So what is a “masculine” noun anyway? Masculine nouns usually end with the letters L-O- N-E-R-S. Feminine nouns usually end in the letters D-ion-Z-A. To make nouns or adjectives plural add “s” to words ending with vowels, add “es” to words ending with consonants. Ex. El chico ---- Los chicos el papel ---- Los papeles

10 How to use adjectives Unlike English, in Spanish, adjectives usually follow the nouns they describe. Ex. El chico trabajador Los chicos trabajadores La chica trabajadora Las chicas trabajadoras

11 How would you WRITE the following? Work with your classmate to write these on your desk. 1. The short girl 2. The tall boy 3. The pretty girl 4. The tall boys 5. My friend (male) is short. 6. This is my friend Julia. She is a little serious, but very intelligent. She is also very pretty. (pagina 44)
