2 What is a Direct Object?  A direct object is the word in the sentence that receives the action of the verb.  The direct object pronoun can be a person or an object.

3 How do I find the direct object?  The direct object answers the question “whom” or “what” after the verb. Ex: She bought a bathing suit. What did she buy? A bathing suit. A bathing suit = direct object

4 Direct object pronouns  The direct object can be replaced by a direct object pronoun. Yo = Me(me)Nosotros, as = nos (us) Tú = Te(you)Vosotros, as = os (you) Él = Lo(him)Ellos = los (them) Ella = la(her)Ellas = las (them) Usted = lo,la (you)Ustedes = los, las (you)

5 Placement of the pronouns  The pronouns replace the nouns. You can’t have both of them in a sentence.  The pronouns are placed before the conjugated verb.

6 Examples  Ella compró un bañador. Ella What did she buy? Un bañador Un bañador = masculine, singular = lo Lo goes before the conjugated verb compróun bañadorlo Ella lo compró.

7 Examples  Ellos van a leer nuestros libros. Ellos What are they going to read? nuestros libros Nuestros libros = masculine, plural = los Los goes before the conjugated verb van a leernuestros libroslos Ellos los van a leer.

8 Examples  ¿Compraste la toalla? What did you buy? La toalla La toalla = feminine, singular = la La goes before the conjugated verb ¿Comprastela toalla?la ¿La compraste?= Sí, la compré.

9 Practice Compré los esquís ayer. Los compré ayer. Invitó a Juan. Lo invitó. ¿Tú compraste la raqueta en la tienda? Sí, Yo la compré en la tienda.

10 Practice ¿Dónde compraste la mochila? La compré en la tienda. Voy a preparar la comida. La voy a preparar.
