2 OVERVIEW OF GUSTAR PART I

3 The verb gustar actually means “to be pleasing” In English, the equivalent is “ to like ” For example: In English we say: I like Spanish In Spanish we say: Me gusta el español (Which actually translates to: Spanish is pleasing to me)

4 GUSTAR IS NOT A NORMAL VERB In Spanish we use the verb “ gustar ” to talk about things that we like or what we like to do. However, “gustar” is a strange verb, it’s kind of an irregular, but not really. 5 WHAT’S SO STRANGE… The most commonly used forms of the verb gustar in the present tense are gusta and gustan HOWEVER, You must use an IOP ( Indirect Object Pronoun ) before gustar (me, te, le, nos, les) The IOP specifies to whom it is pleasing, ** never use a Personal Pronoun (yo, tú, el, ella, usted, nosotros, ellos, ellas, ustedes) instead of the IOP.
