(Active)  El coche es arreglado por el mecánico. (Passive)

3  Subject + ser + past participle (ado, ido) + por + agent

4  *The verb ser may be in any tense:present, imperfect, preterite, future, conditional…or in any mood: indicative or subjunctive (depending upon the situation/context).

5  Las fotos son reveladas  Las fotos eran reveladas  Las fotos fueron reveladas  Las fotos serían reveladas  Las fotos han sido reveladas  por ese fotógrafo.  Las fotos habían sido reveladas  Quiero que las fotos sean reveladas  Me gustaría que las fotos fueran reveladas  Creía que las fotos serían reveladas

6  The past participle agrees with the subject.  Las ventanas fueron abiertas por mi madre.  In Spanish, the passive voice occurs less frequently than in English. Use it to focus on the subject rather than the agent.  La casa fue destruida por un incendio. (focus is house)  The agent is not always expressed.  Este Castillo fue construido en el siglo XV.

7  The brakes were repaired by the mechanic.  Los frenos fueron reparados por el mecánico.  The faucet was taken apart by the plumber.  El grifo fue desarmado por el plomero.  The rooms were decorated by the decorator.  Los cuartos fueron decorados por el decorador.

9  Expresses an action in the passive voice  El restaurante es abierto por el gerente.  Los frenos son arreglados por el mecánico.

10  Expresses a condition resulting from an action. In this construction, the agent is NEVER mentioned.  El restaurante está abierto.  Los frenos están arreglados.  El televisor está roto.

11  We are seated on the sofa.  Estamos sentados en el sofá.  The food is served by the waiter.  La comida es servida por el mesero.  My tape recorder is broken (not working).  Mi grabadora está descompuesta.
