3 Así se forma 4: Indirect object pronouns
Pronombres de objeto indirecto Note the pattern of change in the following model verbs. me me (to/for me) José me dio una foto de los mapuches. te you ¿Te dio una carta? le you (formal) him her Él quiere darle un libro a usted. Yo quiero darle un libro a él. Quiero darle un libro a ella también. nos us Nuestros amigos nos compraron chocolates. les you/them ¿Ellos les mandaron tarjetas postales a ustedes?

4 Position of indirect object pronouns
Así se forma 4: Indirect object pronouns Position of indirect object pronouns Just like Direct Object Pronouns, the indirect object pronoun is placed immediately before a conjugated verb, but maybe attached to an infinitive or a present participle. (Ellos) Me dijeron que esa película es muy buena. They told me that that movie is really good. ¿Vas a comprarme esa revista? Are you going to buy me that magazine? ¿(Tú) Me vas a comprar esa revista? (A él or A ella) Estoy dándole mi tarjeta de crédito. I’m giving her/him my credit card. Le estoy dando mi tarjeta de crédito.

5 Indirect object pronouns
Third-person indirect object pronouns (le, les) are generally used with the indirect object noun. This redundancy does not occur in English. Les escribí a mis primos. I wrote to my cousins. También le escribí a Mónica. I wrote to Mónica too. Le and les are often clarified with the preposition a + pronoun. Le escribí a ella anoche. I wrote to her last night. It’s common to use the forms a mí, a ti, a usted, a él, a ella, a nosotros/as, a ustedes, a ellos, a ellas with the indirect object pronoun for emphasis. Isabel me mandó el paquete a mí. Isabel sent the package to me. (me only! not to someone else, ha ha!)
