1 Los Mandatos To give a command or to make a suggestion to someone you address as “tú”…we use the informal command form. Formal we use “usted”, for a group or more than one person use “ustedes”, and in English “lets” you will use “nosotros”

2 Affirmative tú commands are the same as the él/ella form of the present tense. Correr: ¡corre! Tomar: ¡toma! Enseñar: ¡enseña! Escribir: ¡escribe! Colaborar: ¡colabora!

3 A few irregular tú command forms… decir ¡di! say! tell! hacer ¡haz! do! make! poner ¡pon! put,place,set! tener ¡ten! have, be! salir ¡sal! leave! ser ¡sé! be! ir ¡ve! go! venir ¡ven! come!

4 Placement of prounouns Attach reflexive, direct and indirect object pronouns to the end of affirmative commands. Add an accent mark to show that the stress remains in the same place. Example: Sentarse ¡Siéntate! ¡toma esas vitaminas! ¡Tómalas!

7 Mandatos negativos informales Casos especiales: 1.The same rule applies for the verbs whose present YO form ends in: “go”, “zco”, “yo”, and “jo” – Salir ¡No salgas! – incluir ¡No incluyas! – Dirigir ¡No dirijas! – Reconocer al chico ¡No reconozcas al chico!

8 ¿Pronouns? Also, remember that pronouns go after the “no” (before the conjugate verb). Ejemplo- pelearse (¡ No te pelees !) desanimarse (¡ No te desanimes !) Comer pescado (¡No lo comas!) Servir a él (¡No le sirvas!)

11 Usted To form a command with Ud remove the “s” from a negative tú command. Ex: (tú) ¡No comas! – Ud. Afirmativo ¡Coma! – Ud. Negativo ¡No coma! Ex: (tú) ¡No mires! – Ud. Afirmativo: ¡Mire! – Ud. Negativo : ¡No mire! Ex: (tú) ¡No escribas! – Ud. Afirmativo: ¡Escriba! – Ud. Negativo: ¡No escriba!

12 Ustedes To form the ustedes command replace the “s” in the tú commands with an “n”: Tú: ¡No cierres la puerta! – Uds. Afirmativo: ¡Cierren la puerta! – Uds. Negativo: ¡No cierren la puerta! Tú: ¡No pidas esa comida! – Uds. Afirmativo: ¡Pidan esa comida! – Uds. Negativo: ¡No pidan esa comida!
