2 ICEBREAKER Who can name 5 adults in the room? Knowing our own school community is an important communication practice. It is the gateway into building strong partnerships that strengthen a child's wellbeing. The focus for this workshop is improving communication amongst all of us. The key is to be involved.

3 MAIN COMMUNICATION: PARENT PORTAL www.agcfamily.org Raise your hand if you are on the parent portal. We are all each other’s resources. What information will be available? Weekly newsletters, calendars, announcement, virtual main office, pod photos, links to resources, etc. Important usage information Check it weekly, teachers will update every Friday Know how to find your child’s pod Set up automatic updates alert Any questions? See volunteers with laptops for assistance.

4 OTHER CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION Share your contact information with the school. Such as: email, phone, address, etc. If your information changes, it is critical to update the school with the new changes. Other AGC communication channels: AGC blog, AGC Facebook, AGC Parent Connect Facebook, Family Board, Convivio, Conferences. Inform your teachers about your best form of communication and if translations are needed The ultimate goal is to reduce paper and keep everyone informed.

6 PARENT ENGAGEMENT HOUR As you know, everyone is required to be engaged in our school, here are some ideas: Volunteering in any capacity at school or at a school event Reading with your child beyond that required by homework Reading and responding to education-related articles posted to the Portal Attending Convivios Additional activities designed by the school and communicated via the portal Every month, with school calendar we will send home document where parents will be recording their engagement hours

7 HEALTHY HOME HABITS Parent to parent ideas to support your child’s health & happiness Routines & Schedules!!! Sleep (10-11 hours of sleep) Lack of sleep affects your child’s school day and learning Homework Your attitude towards homework sends a message to your child Relaxed morning routine Assign responsibilities, make your life easier Dinner conversations: school to home connections Ask specific questions as to what your child is learning. Check the pod portal to be informed of the classroom learning. Overall, communicate with your child.

Es una puerta hacia la construccion de vinculos que fortalecen el bienestar del nino. El enfoque de este taller es mejorar la comunicacion entre todos nosotros. 11 COMUNICACION PRINCIPAL: EL PORTAL DE LOS PADRES www.agcfamily.org Levantese la mano si este por el portal de padres. Somos nosotros los recursos de uno a otro. Que informacion sera acesible? Hojas informativas, calendarios, anuncios, la oficina virtual, fotos, sitios de web, etc. Informacion importante: Verlo semanalmente, los maestros modernizaran cada viernes. Sepan como se encuentra el salon (pod) de su hijo. Inscribirse para noticias nuevas. Preguntas? Ven los voluntarios con laptops para ayuda.

12 OTRAS MANERAS DE COMUNICARSE Comparten su informacion del contacto con la escuela: su email, telefono, domicilio, etc. Si la informacion cambie, es imperativo que la modernicen con la escuela lo mas pronto posible. Otras maneras de estar al dia: AGC blog, AGC Facebook, AGC Parent Connect Facebook, Family Board, Convivio, Conferencias. Informen sus maestros sobre la mejor manera de comunicarse y si necesiten traducciones. El ultima meta es reducir el paper y que esten todos informados.

14 HORAS DE PARTICIPACION Como ya sepan, todos tienen que participar en la escuela: Aqui estan unas ideas: Hacer voluntariado en cualquiera capacidad en la escuela o un evento de la escuela. Lean con su nino mas que sea necesario por la tarea. Leer y contestar a articulos que tienen que ver con la educacion por el portal de padres. Asisten a los Convivios Actividades adicionales disenados por la escuela y que esten comunicados por el Additional activities designed by the school and communicated via el portal de padres. Cada mes, les mandamos un calendario de la escuela y un documento para anotar sus horas de participacion.

15 HABITOS SALUDABLES PARA EL HOGAR Ideas de padre a padre con ideas para apoyar el bienestar y la felicidad de su nino. Las rutinas y los horarios! Dormir (10-11 hours of sleep) Al perder el descanso afecta al dia de su nino y su aprendizaje. La Tarea Su actitud sobre la tarea manda un mensaje a su nino. Una rutina relajada por la manana Den responsibilidades, Haz la vida mas simple. Dinner conversations: school to home connections Pidan preguntas especificas sobre lo que esta aprendiendo su nino. Chequen el portal para estar al dia sobre lo que esta pasando en el salon. Mas que nada, cominicarse con su hijo.

Modernicen su informacion! emergencias Sean proactivos con la comunicacion. Cambio de numeros, cambio de email. Queremos compartir todas las cosas positivas que pasan en en nuestra escuela. Cambios del medio ambiente o de la familia (dinamicas) son importantes porqe affectan su nino en la escuela. Trabajamos como equipo para crear este ambiente saludable.
