3 Los verbos IR y HACER Overview & Purpose:
Learning the correct use of the verbs “IR” and HACER will allow you to find out & tell where you’re going & what you’re doing OBJETIVO: TSWBAT tell where they and others are going & what they are going to do Language Objective: The student can create sentences telling where people are located on a university campus

4 (to) Where are you going?
¿Adónde vas? Voy a ________. I go/I’m going to _____. Voy a la biblioteca. I go /I’m going to the library. Voy al teatro. I go/I’m going to the theater.

5 ¿Adónde? To where a a la al (a + el)
“to”: to school, to the zoo - transition A la casa Al teatro a la Feminine al (a + el) Masculine

6 IS NOT an ending like ”-ir” Irregular root “v”
Conjugating “ir” IR To go IS NOT an ending like ”-ir” Irregular root “v” 1st person is “oy” ending -ar conjugation

8 Detalles… “IR” is always followed by the preposition “A”
Voy a la casa (I go/ am going to the house) Voy a la universidad ( I go/am going to the university To say what you or someone is going to do in the FUTURE, use “ir” + a + infinitive Voy a estudiar mañana. I’m GOING to study tomorrow

9 To tell what someone is or is not going to do, use “ir” + a + infinitive
Ir: voy, vas, va/ vamos, vais, van Voy a _______. I’m going to ________. (“ir” changes to voy) Voy a estudiar. (add “a” and the infinitive) I’m going to study. No voy a ______. I’m not going to ______. No voy a comer. I’m not going to eat.

10 ¿Vas a estudiar? No, voy a descansar. ¿Van a salir? Sí, vamos a comer.
Are you going to study? No, voy a descansar. No, I’m going to rest. ¿Van a salir? Are you (all)/they going to go out? Sí, vamos a comer. Yes, we’re going to eat.

Add the word “a” (to)--makes it future Finish with an infinitive (-ar, -er, -ir) Vamos a bailar

14 Hacer Means “to make” or “to do” It’s an IRREGULAR verb

Yo-Go Verb: first person ends with “go”

16 Detalles… When you are asked a question using “hacer” you usually respond with ANOTHER verb (not “hacer!) ¿Qué vas a hacer mañana? Mañana voy a estudiar. Mañana voy a dormir. Eliminate HACER, unless it’s part of the response action. Mañana voy a hacer ejercicio. Mañana voy a hacer la tarea.
