2 UNEP Trabaja escencialmente con los gobiernos. También con ONG, universidades, jóvenes y niños y otras agencias de la ONU Trabajo con jóvenes a partir de 1985.

4 QUE ES TUNZA? TUNZA significa to treat with care or affection Niños menores de14 años, jóvenes entre 15 y 24 años Activities focus on : – International Youth Conference – Global Youth Gatherings – Awareness raising – Social networking on facebook and twitter, uniteforclimate

5 TUNZA ACTIVITIES International Childrens conference Tunza International Childrens Conference in Nagoya, Japan Sensitizes children to environmental issues e.g. climate change, biodiversity Outcome: Commitments, regional action plans Junior Board- 6 children from 6 regions

6 International Childrens Painting Competition Held annually since 1991 For children aged 14 and below. Has a different theme each year This year about 26,510 children from 88 countries sent paintings Winners receive cash prizes and fully paid trip to attend the International Childrens Conference.

7 TUNZA International Youth Conferences Children and Youth Conferences, August 2009. The Conference brought together 700 participants. The theme of the conference was Climate Change - Our Challenge! The Conference resulted in a petition to world leaders and an action plan for promoting individual actions on climate change.

8 TUNZA YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL Represent youth in 6 regions: Africa, Asia and Pacific, Europe, North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, West Asia Advises UNEP on best ways of involving youth It is made up of 14 advisors and includes indigenous youth Elected at the International Youth Conference

9 United Nations declared 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity Celebration of life on earth and of the value of biodiversity for our lives International Biodiversity Day is on 22nd May and we are inviting children and youth around the world to participate in the activities Other Related Issues

10 Plant for the Planet: The Billion Tree Campaign Promote reforestation & encourage the planting of more trees Children and youth in schools can participate In Kenya, tree planting sessions are organized in April and November The Billion Tree Campaign to date has planted 10b trees in 172 countries

11 World Environment Day (WED) WED stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action Whatever you do, tell us about it. 13 TUNZA Global Youth Gathering Gathering takes place every two years in Nairobi Held during the Governing Council For 50 youth to review UNEP activities and influence decisions
