Las reglas- Rules for feminine & masucline Just like any other adjective in Spanish, names of professions must change to agree with the object that they describe (in this case, the person they are describing). – Those that end in –o change to –a (e.g. abogado abogada) – Those that end in –r add an a (e.g. profesor profesora) – Those that end in –e or -a dont need to change (e.g. dependiente dependiente, (policia policia) – Some just have their own special ending (e.g. actor actriz)
Follow the Masculine & Feminine Rule and change to feminine… Peluquero ________________________ Cocinero __________________________ Abogado __________________________ Profesor ___________________________ Vendedor _________________________ Dependiente _______________________ Astronauta _________________________ Policía _____________________________ Actor _____________________________
Rule with the verb ser and professions- Soy… Es… » Profesor » Enfermera » Abogada » Piloto etc. Note that in Spanish, the article is not used when talking about jobs. So, you do not say Soy un profesor as you would in English. Correct way… Soy profesor. Es profesor.
