2 Stem-Changing Verbs: o to ue
Some verbs have an o to ue stem change in the present tense. How do you form the present tense of these verbs?

3 Here’s how: Remember that stem-changing verbs have regular –ar, -er, -ir endings. For o to ue stem-changing verbs, the last o of the stem changes to ue in all forms except nosotros (as) and vosotros (as).

5 What is a stem changing verb?
Also known as a “boot verb” because the stem does not change in the nosotros and vosotros forms. The stem is the part of the verb that precedes the –er,-ir,-ar ending of a verb. Example: almorzar (o>ue) Stem = almorz Yo almuerzo a las 12:20pm. Vosotros *almorzáis en la cafetería.

10 Stem-Changing Verbs: e to i
For e to i stem-changing verbs, the last e of the stem changes to i in all forms except nosotros(as) and vosotros (as). sirvo servimos sirves servís sirve sirven El camarero sirve la comida.

11 Pedir (to order, to ask for)
pido pedimos pides pedís pide piden -¿Pides una ensalada? -No. Pido los frijoles. -Siempre *pedimos pollo.
