3 Reflexive Verbs explain an action done to oneself the subject of a reflexive verb performs and receives the action (the action is reflected back to the subject) example: I am brushing my hair. She is taking a bath. (is bathing herself).

5 A reflexive verb is formed by using the reflexive pronoun and the corresponding form of the verb me + yo formnos + nosotros form te + tú form XXXXXXXXXXXX se + él, ella, Ud. formse + ellos, ellas, Uds. form The reflexive pronouns come directly before the conjugated verb

6 EXAMPLES bañarse-to bathe oneself/to take a bath You are taking a bath (bathing yourself). Te bañas. I am taking a bath (bathing myself). Me baño.Nos bañamos. We are taking a bath (bathing ourselves). Se bañan.Se baña. They/You are taking a bath (bathing themselves/ yourselves). He/She is taking /You are taking a bath (bathing himself/ herself/yourself).

7 Other important info… It is assumed that body parts belong to the subject of the sentence I am brushing my teeth. Parts of the body and articles of clothing use definite articles, not possessive adj. (mi/mis, tu/tus, su/sus, etc.) Me cepillo los dientes.

8 Other important info… To make the sentence negative, add “no” before the reflexive pronoun Manuel no se afeita. Manuel is not shaving (himself).

11 Let’s Practice First, I wake up at six. –Primero, me despierto a las seis. Then I get up. –Entonces me levanto. Later I shower and I shave. –Luego me ducho y me afeito. Finally I put clothes on myself. –Por fin me pongo la ropa.

12 Other important info… When an infinitive is used, the reflexive pronoun is attached to the infinitive or placed before the conjugated verb. Nosotros vamos a maquillarnos. We are going to put on make-up (going to put make-up on themselves). Me tengo que bañar. I have to take a bath (bathe myself).
