3 Expressing an assumption Me imagino que los jóvenes estadounidenses son como los jóvenes españoles. I imagine that United States youth are like Spanish youth. Supongo que la gente saca sus ideas de otras culturas a través de la tele. I suppose that people get their ideas about other cultures from t.v. Tengo entendido que hay muchas culturas distintas en Estados Unidos. I understand that there are many distinct cultures in the United States. Tengo la impresión de que la gente es muy abierta en Puerto Rico. I’m under the impression that people in Puerto Rico are very open.

4 Making hypothetical statements Si pudieras vivir en cualquier país del mundo por un año, ¿adónde irías? If you could live in whichever country in the world for a year, where would you go? Si pudiera, viviría en el Caribe. If I could, I would live in the Carribean. Si fueras rico(a), ¿qué harías? If you were rich what would you do? Si tuviera cien dólares, compraría muchos regalos. If I had one hundred dollars, I would buy many gifts/presents.

5 El condicional To talk about what you could, or would do, use the conditional tense. The conditional helps you to talk about what would happen under certain conditions. The conditional is used to make polite requests.

6 El condicional Like the future tense, -ar, -er, and –ir verbs all have the same endings (IMPERFECT – er/ir endings) that are added directly to the infinitive. -ía infinitive -ías -ía -íamos -ían
