Big Idea Many languages have PREFIXES (which you can add to the beginning of a word to change its meaning) and SUFFIXES (which you can to the end of a word to change its meaning.) One of the most common suffixes in Spanish is –mente which is the equivalent of –ly in English.

Construction ADJECTIVES describe nouns. ADVERBS describe verbs. To make an adverb, we simply add – mente to the singular feminine form of an adjective.

Demonstrative Adjectives

Adjective: means we are going to describe nouns. Demonstrative: means the adjective will demonstrate where the noun is.

Where are we? In Spanish there are 3 ranges of location that we need to know: Aquí: Here Allí: There Allá: Over There

Aquí When we talk about things that are “here,” we use the words “this and these.” This and these have T’s Este Esta Estos Estas

Aquí Practice This book is good. Este libro es bueno. This person is crazy. Esta persona es loca. These dogs are cute. Estos perros son bonitos. These pens are broken. Estas plumas son rotas.

Allí When we talk about things that are “there,” we use the words “that and those.” That and those don’t have T’s Ese Esa Esos Esas

Pronoun: means we are going to replace nouns. Demonstrative: means the pronoun will demonstrate where the noun is.

Preterite of ER/IR Verbs

Idea Grande If you have a normal ER or IR verb, this is the process to conjugate it in the preterite tense. This means it happened one time in the past. Good news – ER and IR verbs have the same endings in the preterite!
