1 Conjugate –cer/-cir/-ger/-gir/ -guir verbs in the present tense

2 Conjugate –cer/-cir This rule is important but does not apply to many infinitives that we work with in the classroom.

3 Conjugate –cer/-cir The infintives are regular EXCEPT in the yo form. The change only takes place in the yo form!

4 Conjugate –cer/-cir In the yo form, if there is a vowel before the -cer/-cir, the yo form conjugates to –zco. There is a reason why– it is to keep the “s” sound in the word. Without the z it would be a hard c sound and that doesn’t match the rest of the verbs.

5 Conocer = to know Yo conozco Nosotros/as TúVosotros/as Él Ella Usted Ellos Ellas Ustedes

6 Conocer = to know Yo conozco Nosotros/as Tú conoces Vosotros/as Él Ella Usted Ellos Ellas Ustedes

7 Conocer = to know Yo conozco Nosotros/as Tú conoces Vosotros/as Él Ella conoce Usted Ellos Ellas Ustedes

12 Conjugate –cer/-cir If the verb that ends in –cer/-cir has a consonant before –cer/-cir the yo ending changes from c to –zo.

13 Vencer-to overcome Yo Venzo (I overcome) Nosotros/as Vencemos (We overcome) Tú Vences (you overcome) Vosotros/as Vencéis Él Ella Vence (he/she/you Usted overcomes) Ellos Ellas Vencen (they/you Ustedes all overcome)
