2 Stem-Changing Verbs Stem of verb remains when ending is removed hablar – to talk, to speak habl These are verbs that have spelling changes in the stem when the verb is conjugated. The change takes place in the vowel that is closest to the ending. preferir – to prefer

3 Stem-Changing Verbs The spelling change takes place in all of the forms EXCEPT THE NOSOTROS FORM!!! This forms a boot pattern whenever you have a conjugation chart. The nosotros form is the only form outside of the boot, and its spelling does not change. preferir – to prefer yo prefieronosotros preferimos tú prefieres usted, él prefiere ella ustedes ellos prefieren ellas

4 Stem-Changing Verbs These verbs take the regular -AR, -ER, and -IR endings. -ER and -IR Verb Endings yo -onosotros -emos / -imos tú -es usted él -e ella ustedes ellos -en ellas -AR Verb Endings yo -onosotros -amos tú -as usted él -a ella ustedes ellos -an ellas

6 O UE Change dormir – to sleep yo duermonosotros dormimos tú duermes usted él duerme ella ustedes ellos duermen ellas Mis perros duermen durante del día. Tú duermes a las once y media. Nosotros dormimos hasta ocho de la mañana.

7 E I Change servir – to serve yo sirvonosotros servimos tú sirves usted él sirve ella ustedes ellos sirven ellas Mi madre sirve el pastel. Tú sirves el desayuno. Nosotros servimos las verduras para el almuerzo.
