3 South JHS Vision Statement All students, parents, staff and community members of South Junior High School will collaborate and hold each other accountable to ensure that all students are cared for, guided and supported academically and socially. Students will engage in a rigorous, dynamic, innovative and enriching curriculum with the support of technology and interventions that will prepare them to be problem solvers, lifelong learners, leaders and global competitors in the 21 st Century.

5 The 4C’s (21 st Century Skills) COMMUNICATION & COLLABORATION: Students know how to articulate thoughts and ideas effectively using oral, written and nonverbal communication. They listen effectively to decipher meaning, such as knowledge, values, attitudes and intentions, and use communication in diverse teams and environments for a wide range of purposes. CREATIVITY & INNOVATION: Students use a wide range of techniques to create new and worthwhile ideas, elaborate, refine, analyze, and evaluate their own ideas. In order to improve and maximize creative efforts, students need to demonstrate originality and inventiveness both individually, and in group settings. CRITICAL THINKING & PROBLEM SOLVING: Students reason effectively, use systems thinking and understand how parts of a whole interact with each other. They make judgments, decisions, and solve problems in both conventional and innovative ways based upon logical reasoning and evidence.

6 Las 4C’s (Aptitudes para el Siglo 21) COMUNICACIÓN Y COLABORACIÓN: Alumnos que saben expresar sus pensamientos e ideas con eficacia por medio de comunicación oral, escrita o no verbal. Escuchan eficazmente para entender el significado, cómo el conocimiento, valores, sentimientos? e intenciones y usar la comunicación en diversos equipos y ambientes con propósitos de una amplia variedad. CREATIVIDAD E INNOVACIÓN: Alumnos usan una gran variedad de técnicas para desarrollar nuevas ideas que valen la pena, elaboraran, refinan, analizan y evalúan sus propias ideas. Para poder mejorar y aumentar la cantidad de esfuerzos creativos, los alumnos deben demostrar originalidad y creatividad individualmente y en el trabajo de grupo. RAZONAMIENTO ANALÍTICO Y RESOLUCIÓN DE PROBLEMAS: Alumnos usan la razón con eficacia, piensan sobre los sistemas y entienden como trabajan todas las partes en conjunto. Forman opiniones, toman decisiones, y resuelven problemas de maneras convencionales e innovadoras basándose en razonamiento lógico y las pruebas.

7 SUCCESSFUL EAGLES COME TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY READY TO LEARN !  Arrive to each class on time  Complete all assignments and turn them in on time  Participate in class  Ask for help when needed  Participate in tutoring after school if extra help is needed  Read for at least 30 minutes every day

11 PURPOSE:  SAFETY  To quickly identify all South students SHIRTS/TOPS:  Plain RED or DARK BLUE polo shirt with no logos  Collared  Can be bought at school $15 or at local stores BOTTOMWEAR:  BLUE pants, skirts, shorts  No holes or tears  No writing  Length appropriate UNDER SHIRTS:  Must be white SWEATSHIRTS/JACKETS:  Solid color – GREY, BLUE, RED, WHITE –No logos DRESS CODE - UNIFORMS

25 How the year is separated  The year is split separated in to 2 semesters  Each semester has 2 quarters  Semester GPAs are the ones that count  GPA doesn’t change on a daily basis

29 Attendance Children chronically absent in kindergarten and 1 st grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3 rd grade. By 6 th grade, chronic absence is a proven early warning sign for students at risk for dropping out of school. By 9 th grade good attendance can predict graduation rates even better than 8 th grade test scores. We don’t want you to fall behind in school and get discouraged. Absences can add up quickly. A student is chronically absent if he or she misses just two days every month.

30 Asistencia Niños con ausentismo habitual en el kínder y el primer grado son más propensos a no leer a su nivel académico cuando llegan al fin del tercer grado. Se ha comprobado como indicador que los alumnos del 6to grado que faltan habitualmente a la escuela están en peligro de abandonar los estudios. La buena asistencia en el 9no grado puede mejor predecir las tazas de graduación que los resultados de exámenes en el 8vo grado. No queremos que se atrasen en sus estudios y se desanimen. Las faltas a la escuela se pueden acumular rápidamente. Se considera ausentismo habitual si el alumno falta sólo dos días en un mes.
